Toppan Forms Co., Ltd. handles many reprints of the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, which boasts one of the best collections in the world, holds more than 500 ukiyo-e prints by Hiroshige Utagawa, mainly the precious first edition, and is known as the best ukiyo-e collection in the world.

In this work, the director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Ukiyo-e Prints and curator Sarah E. Thompson carefully selects works from the Bigelow Collection and Spording Collection, which are not open to the public at the Museum of Fine Arts, in order to keep them preserved. We had you participate in color adjustment with the original, and realized a highly complete reproduction in full size using Echizen Torinoko Washi.

The world's first Tokaido, which can be viewed as if traveling on the Tokaido, by combining all 55 Ukiyo-e prints into a single continuous scroll by combining the latest advanced printing technology and the skills of Japanese picture scroll cover artisans. It is a Gosho tertiary picture scroll.

ボストン美術館所蔵の非公開作品を復刻!
ボストン美術館セレクションシリーズ 歌川広重 保永堂版 「東海道五拾三次絵巻」

<Customer's voice>

[Introduction of the 57th Tokaido Exchange Meeting from the Tokaido Townspeople Life History Museum]

An important measure introduced by Ieyasu Tokugawa immediately after Sekigahara was the Tokaido-juku station transmission system, which greatly contributed to the rule for 270 years after that, but this post and highway have also been handed down in a distorted form with the times. Since Hiroshige announced that the area up to Kyo was "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido", the Tokaido is recognized as the 53rd level to Kyo, but the map and survey report of the Shogunate list the 57th level up to Osaka. The coexistence of both is clear. In recent years, some elementary school supplementary readers and university entrance exam reference books have stated that "Tokaido is up to Osaka", but it is still not enough. In 2017, when the 1st Tokaido 57th Exchange Meeting was planned in Kanbara-juku in order to wish for accurate transmission of highways and Edo period culture and to promote information exchange between post stations, Noda was sponsored by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Minister Seiko himself gave a guest greeting. The second meeting was co-sponsored by Nagoya City and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce. At the 3rd Tokaido 57th Exchange Meeting, Governor Kawakatsu of Shizuoka Prefecture, Mayor Toyooka of Mishima City, and former Tokaido post station officials participated, and Mayor Sakurai of Kameyama City, Mie Prefecture, Toppan Forms Co., Ltd., Keihan Holdings Co., Ltd. , Takeshi Shida, the director of the museum, will give a lecture. At the opening ceremony, the presentation ceremony and exhibition of "Utagawa Hiroshige Tokaido Goho Sanji Emaki", which is a full-scale restoration of the Ukiyo-e from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, donated by Toppan Forms Co., Ltd. to Shizuoka Prefecture and Mishima City, will be held. The 3rd meeting will be co-sponsored by Shizuoka Prefecture and Mishima City and will be held at the Mishima Citizens' Cultural Center Large Hall from 10:00 on Saturday, September 28, 1st year of Reiwa. (Accommodates 1,200 people, no reservation required, free admission) https://www.city.mishima.shizuoka.jp/kanko_content041898.html
